The Birth of Arthur - Positive Hospital Birth During COVID

“Welcome to the world our beautiful, healthy baby boy called Arthur James Butterworth 👶🏼💙! He was born on Sunday 18th October at 9.31pm weighing 7 pounds exactly. He is just perfect, we’re so in love 🥰 !

It felt like a long labour to be honest, early labour lasted about 24 hours but active labour was only 3 hours. During early labour, we managed at home until I was 3cm dilated using relaxations in the bath and Jamie doing massages on my lower back. When I was 4cm dilated, Jamie could join me in the labour suite in the hospital. We had a quiet, relaxed room with dimmed lights, calming music and an aromatherapy diffuser. Arthur was birthed in the pool which was just perfect for us. This was where I felt the most comfortable and safe.

In terms of pain relief, I had paracetamol during early labour then liquid morphine followed by gas and air in established labour. It was so surreal when he was finally here!

I did end up having to have some stitches with a second degree tear but I’m doing well now.

We’d just like to say thank you so much for all of your support during our pregnancy journey, I don’t know how we’d have done it without doing your hypnobirthing course. It gave us both knowledge and confidence. Jamie knew exactly what to do to help me all the way through it and even wasn’t phased by any blood.

He announced that we had a boy and managed to cut the cord.

Also the yoga sessions helped me so much during labour too, I spent most of the time on all fours or on my knees then was in child’s pose between contractions.

Can’t wait to start postnatal yoga when I’m ready!

Sending much love and thanks 💙 xx “
